In 1921 Bernard-Albin GRAS designed a series of lamps to be used in offices and industrial environments. The GRAS lamp, as it was later called, was astonishing in its simple design, robust yet highly ergonomic. It does not have screws or weld joints in its basic form. In 1927 the Ravel company bought the patent and started to produce GRAS lamps.
Bernard-Albin Gras was one of the most innovative designers of the 20th century. The functional aesthetics of their lamps and especially the design details such as the arms, stems, supports and bases were truly original and innovative. In his early days, Le Corbusier was seduced by modern design and the ease of use of lamps and became a convert. in one of Bernard-Albin's most enthusiastic GRAS supporters, using the lamps in his offices thus such as using them in various architectural projects around the world.
