Maru arises from a disciplined concept: circle, paper, light. In his 1980 design, Ingo Maurer chose Japanese paper and metal to create a pendant lamp whose form is almost archetypal, but which is imbued with subtle craftsmanship and quiet sensitivity.
The slightly wrinkled surface of the screen is no accident: it is a deliberate gesture, a testament to the material and the human hand that shapes it. The red iron ring functions both as a visual accent and a precise tool for adjusting the height.
Its restraint is its strength. Maru doesn't seek attention; she reveals herself to those who stop and observe.
